The shortcut should open MoO2 itself, not just dropbox.  You shouldn't have to deal with the dropbox interface.  Are you sure you have this part in the target window: -conf "..\dosboxMOO2.conf" -conf "..\dosboxMOO2_single.conf" -noconsole -c exit

Get 5X - The Ultimate Balance Mod on Steam or on Nexus Mods!

I sure don't, as I didn't have a clue what all that was, so I just didn't add it on for fear of messing something up.  What do all those mean/do?
Further more, I believe that we must start building a better MoO5 now, for only by doing so can we get tomorrow's game, today!

Ok, I finally got them copied and pasted correctly, and started my first game.  Now I need to go grab those mods and fix the fuel cell ranges at long last, lol.

Glad to hear it.  Those extra bits tell Dosbox to load the game.

Ok, and thanks for the help.  Now for the hard part and getting the mods!

I plan to fully mod the version on my win 7 laptop, and then just make the minimal changes or the XP computers game, so that I can just try out the lowered fuel cell ranges, so I can have a better time with keeping every race alive.

At least until I decide to kill them, lol.

What files will I need to Dl and install?  Keep in mind I am a first timer, and know nothing about any of the modding stuff, lol.

Keep in mind that reading first post in the topic is usually a starting point.

Oh, I read it of course, and I even visited the site, and even DL'ed the files.  But then I realized that I did this with the XP machine, and still have to get my contankerous 7 pro laptop to play nicely with the internet, so I can DL the files on that machine.

While I'm on that subject, does anyone know why I can go to some sites with both XP and 7 pro computers, but not others?  XP generally gets me anywhere, but the 7 pro often tells me "Site cannot be reached".

Ok, so after 2 restarts, and many modem resets/unpluggings and other annoying crud, I now have my 7 pro computer over on the moo2mod.com website (this took quite awhile), and am now ready to DL the mod.  Which version do I need?

Ok, 1.50.5 and ICE have be DL'ed successfully to the 7 pro...

I was all set to be happy, but after I got the dosbox to come up, it flashed to the blank black screen, some text flashed in upper left, then CTD.  :(

As you can see, I have two different installs, the desktop is v1.40xx, and then the second one is v1.50.5 one.

See anything totally wrong here?

I'm not sure what the problem is since I haven't actually had much experience with the new patch, but I don't see anything wrong with your screenshots.  Just keep trying I guess, and hopefully it'll work eventually.  Maybe someone else here can offer more insight.  By the way, it would be nice if you just edited and updated a single post instead of posting several posts in a row like that.

you were trying to run Orion95.exe here, which is the old 1.31 windows version of the game.

as for your patch woes, i cant say whats going wrong there, but generally speaking if you have a working 1.40 install and copy the 1.50 files/folders into that folder of the working 1.40 game, the 1.50 patch should work right "out of the box" and no fiddling with config is needed.

you can even play both 1.40 and 1.50 versions from the same folder as cross compatibilty is ensured. Only thing you need to do for it is rename the old 1.40 exe to for example M2V140.EXE (or if you prefer, the new exe to M2V150.EXE).

Thank you sir!  I still don't have the 1.50.5 up and running yet, as I have not tried to copy the patch over to the currently working 1.4xx version folder.  I am just a little leary of all sorts of changes to the game.  I currently play 1.31, and am just trying to make the minimal change of the fuel cells being shorter ranged, and Thorium maxing at 12 parsecs, rather than unlimited.  I think there were two things I needed to make this happen, one was the read me (Or something) included somewhere in the 1.50x patch documentation, and the other was something called Demon-tool or some such, that would actually allow me to edit the files directly.  Where do I find these/and how do I use them?

Actually, I have found the PDF within the v1.50.5 install, so I have that.  Now I just need to know how to understand it, and then get to actual software DL'ed and installed properly, so that I can modify my XP machines v1.31 install, so I can play the way I want.  IIRC, the actual software I need to change the game files is called something like "Demon tools" or some such.  Is that correct?

Ok, before I go and DL the Daemon Tools program for my XP machine, can anyone confirm that I can indeed use it to change the fuel cell ranges in v1.31?  Or even better, post a link to a tutorial?

Thanks.

Thanks.

never heard of daemon tools being used for modding moo2.

if you go 1.50 fan patch, then your required mods are easily done in a configuration text file.

requires study but documentation is extensive, and your config lines are easy:

FUEL_CELLS Standard_Fuel_Cells  =   1   167     4;
FUEL_CELLS Deuterium_Fuel_Cells =   2    51     6;
FUEL_CELLS Iridium_Fuel_Cells   =   3    98     9;
FUEL_CELLS Uridium_Fuel_Cells   =   4   194    12;
FUEL_CELLS Thorium_Fuel_Cells   =   5   184   255;

  (last column is range)

if you stick with 1.31 (although i cant see any reason why you should stick with that bugfest of a version) then you need ocl_improved by Nirran that modifies the actual 1.31 executable, a link can be found on the moo2mod website.

it has both a gui and a text file input method where config lines to change fuel range in the exe look strikingly similar to above. (i always used text)

requires some more study, documentation is sufficient but basic.
