Ok,

Not endorsing or promoting this site for any other reason than that, I went looking and found a site that made it possible to download and play all the old MoO games!

I've been playing near non-stop for days!

Enjoy!

I have the original MOO 2 CD still. The instruction manual is on my bookshelf as well. Last played about 7 years ago though. I'm being kept busy for now with Warplanes, Tanks, and Warships Beta, so I can still wait a bit for the new iteration of MOO to come out. Otherwise I would give the old game a spin today. Thanks for the link anyways.

The GOG versions are great. And they run quite well on DOSBox.

Yeah GOG versions are great, but there is no difference with having original CD (MOO2) + fan patch 1.40 + own DOSBox install.

There is a version out there you can buy that will work on modern PCs, sold in a pack with MoO, MoO2 and MoO3. Worked on my Windows 7 computer. I'll ahve to find out where I got it from, as I bought it on sale about two years ago for around ten dollars.

Hey Paladin,

not sure what you mean with a version that is out there?

the dos versions of the old games MOO1 and MOO2 run fine on most systems with DOSBox.

heck, the Win95.exe from Orion2 runs natively in Win8.1!

(although the DOS version with fan patch 1.40 is much preferred)

MOO3 also runs fine as it is on Win8.1

You installed the game pack and you launched the game from Windows. I can't find the pack now, when I do I'll post it.

This is such a beautiful way to give a new lease of life to an old game.

Amazing video, audio and GUI improvements while keeping the core game intact.

I know this is an old thread, just letting you know, that windows 10 allows Master of Orion 2 windows version to work flawlessly.....once you install the mousefix to stop the mouse from flickering and freezing when you need to name something....i don't get any problems with running it on a 64-Bit OS, which is awesome.

Also, when it comes to the Homeworld Remastered Collection, while the games in general are good and fun to play....when i play against friends, the AI however blatantly cheats, i know all AI cheat in some way to be challenging, but this game totally breaks majority of the rules that we are forced to follow, like ship limits, they can have more then 5 of a ship type even though we are limited to 2-3.

They even spawn a fleet that perfectly counters our fleet at the start of a mission, even if it exceeds the ship limits and they still build more....while i respect any AI that can be challenging without cheating too much, but when it cheats so blatantly, its just the developers being too freaking lazy to do any decent AI, i mean i can live with the AI having a production speed boost, but they should be limited to the same rules and they shouldn't spawn a fleet that 100% counters our own, its just totally stupid.

It would be really cool if Wargaming could implement the bug fixes in the Windows version that have been made for 1.40 (fan patch) and the bug fixes that have been made after 1.40.

I have many fixes done in my personal "1.50" patch.

Moo2 still plays on Windows 8 just fine for me.  I got the patch that has the Orion98.exe file and it even works fine on my acer win 8 tablet.  Nothing special needed to be done.

Hey everyone! New here and LOVED moo2 as a kid. I've been playing Starbase Orion on my phone recently and wanted to give MOO2 a go. I still have my cd with the dos and win95 version on it. I tried downloading dos box and running it but didn't have luck. I'm on Windows 7 and my cd rom drive is F:\ (which may be why I'm having trouble with all the online tutorials I've found for loading this game but I don't know). I'm pretty computer illiterate. Would one of you do a huge favor to a fellow moo2 fan and write out a tutorial on how I can get this game running? Thank you!

edit Please assume that any tiny detail that you can gloss over because I will already know that, well, assume I don't haha!

Try downloading MoO2 from an abandonware site.  The folder should contain ORION95.exe, the windows version that no longer works, and ORION2.exe, which should run on DOSBOX.  The title screen will be a bit glitchy and there will be no music, but the game itself is intact.

Thanks S! But it's not so much that I don't have the files. I'm just computer dumb and don't quite know how to type the exact words into dos box correctly.

So I've copy/pasted the entire cd into a file on my c:\drive. It's c:\microprose\orion2 and the whole cd is pasted in there. Have also downloaded dosbox. I don't know where to go from here? Please help :-)!
