Hello everyone!

So after about a week of revealing what the Bulrathi standard ships look like this week we will be revealing what Human Ships are like but with a small twist. When we introduced the Bulrathi ships we had small blurbs about the ships but this time I wanted to see how creative we can get. Instead of having some pre-written blurb on there I want to challenge you all to come up with your own descriptions for the ships based off what you see, let's have some fun with this.

Human Frigates & Destroyers

Well humans are usually my least fav race, i like escapism i guess. But oh man, these are the best looking ships so far. God damn i love em.

Gotta say though, i find it hard to come up with descriptions without really knowing how ship design works in MoO4, especially not knowing the difference between the two ships for each hull size... perhaps we could bribe Olmeca to give us some infos? Eh... We have cookies!?

Probably not.. Oh well, lets try anyway :)

Frigate:

  1. Serving as the bulk of your initial fleets, frigates see continued use as scouts, fodder and roaming point defense platforms.
  2. The frigate is the weakest but also cheapest hull size available to you. Being the easiest ship to deploy in massed numbers more than makes up for typically being unable to last very long in prolonged combat.

Destroyer:

  1. As the name would suggest, the destroyer packs enough punch to take out ships of varying sizes and is suitable for multiple roles.
  2. A unique hull size in that its just large enough to be equipped with enough weapons to tackle the larger ships, if left alone long enough while also being cheap enough to be deployed in massed numbers.

Cruiser:

  1. Cruisers often compose the mainstay of your fleet with their balance between cost and size, combined this makes perfect fits into home guard fleets.
  2. The Cruiser is the first hull size large enough to be dedicated to any role, whether its missile, support, fighter, long or short range combat they have you covered.

Battleship:

  1. Designed to end combat, quickly. Fleet containing multiple battleships are a force to be reckoned with.
  2. Battleships come at a high cost but are capable of fulfilling multiple roles, deploying fighters while attacking with both missiles and long range attacks.

Titan:

  1. Entire fleets assemble around a titan, capable of bringing massive firepower upon a target.
  2. The largest and most powerful of the typical hull sizes available, titans can change the tide of battle single handedly. This massive strength is offset by the huge costs of the creation process as well as the titans upkeep.

Doom Star:

  1. The size of a small moon and basically a star fortress with a jump drive, doom stars leave nothing standing in their wake.
  2. The obscenely expensive doom star project is something not to be undertaken lightly however those who do complete such a task notice their fleet strength increase monumentally.

All pretty quick. I did two generic - any race - versions for each size, one a short description the other moreso a logistics thing talking about costs.

You and your friends may have preferred certain features from MoO1 or MoO2 .. or perhaps even MoO3 but that does not mean everyone prefers it that way.

Perhaps you could think of some amazing alternative that could enhance the game in new areas, making it more enjoyable for everyone!

Please be creative and open minded when posting, we all want this to be the best game it can be.

This is great stuff, and exactly what i was looking for. Small blurbs created by the community! If we keep them coming maybe I can edit them into the art itself.

So, you are going with stock sizes like in MoO2.

Cool with that, I am

A pity, I was looking forward to the unique class names. Maybe a consideration for devs: allow players to rename the default ship classes for the various races in SP. I could write a text file that re-named the alkari's frigate class as Sky Hawk /<insert some bird like name>. And my game would have a different chain (Sky Hawk, Foxbat, Condor, War Bird etc) from everyone elses. That would retain the flavor for each race and facilitate easier ship identification. Food for thought?

It could def. be something that is community driven, coming up with unique Class Names for each races ship....it'd be quite a challenge though but I think it'd be a fun one.

That would be a fun community event that would be easy enough for everyone visiting the forums to take part in :D

Best battleships yet!!

BSG themed on the left, homeworld themed on the right. And they are beauties.

These human ships do look very cool. :) My own personal favorite is the Star Trek influenced line of ships.

Moreover, I advise that the tactical combat must be made more player controllable and informative for this to become a proper MOO game.

The long lost formula for space 4X game success = Good tactical combat + good empire management > than just good tactical combat or good empire management alone.

I'm really loving the looks of these ships. Very unique and definitely human in appearance. I can't wait to see the development of this game as it progresses, this is all looking quite good.

As for the in-game descriptions, I suppose I can give it a shot:

Frigate: A lighter ship with varying armament for reconnaissance, fast-attack strategy or support fire. Versatile and varying in ability, Frigates are certainly a critical unit in any task force.

Destroyer: A super-light ship built with incredible firepower for surprise-attack and damage-dealing. Impressive in a fight, but must rely on other units for protection to stay in the battle.

Cruiser: A midrange ship with all arrangements of armament, able to engage nearly any target. Able to suit any purpose, every forward force must have one of these.

Battleship: A heavy ship with incredible offensive abilities, the battleship is integral to making yourself a formidable force. Although able to really shift the course of a battle, the battleship is still reliant on other units to find the enemy and stay at range to have the greatest impact.

Hmm, so they are beefed up versions of the battleship. Perhaps a little similar? I gotta say, the artwork for the top ship looks a lot better than the resulting 3d model seen in Olmecas signature. Sure its low res and we cant really analyze it but i cant help but feel a lot of detail has been scrapped from the original design?

Im only grumping on because the artwork for the top ship is so damn epic. Frankly it looks amazing!

Looking forward to seeing the 3d model versions in more detail! :D

And our final NEW Human starship.....the dreaded DOOMSTAR (aka Deathstar for some aka Cube for others....even though the shape is nothing very cube like at all)

Wow... thats the most unconventional Doomstar to date, i love it! (though... its only the second we have seen so far haha). But i gotta say, i hope that big pointy needly gizmo on the front is an engine because i dont want ALL my doomstars to be fitted with stellar converters.

I may want to outfit one as a pure missile ship, or pure anti fighter for the rest of the fleet. I wonder how the final 3d model turned out for this one.
