"LOL the recent most-helpful Steam reviews all flipped to positive in one day

So I was checking out MOO:CTS's reviews on Saturday, on the game's Store page, August 13th, 2016, and noticed most of the top recent reviews were negative, which wasn't a surprise. Then today I checked again this late Sunday evening and found on the Store page the most-helpful recent reviews were all positive!

Further, all these positive reviews had almost 50 users voting the reviews were helpful 89% or higher! You didn't see that level of participation with the prior negative reviews.

How does that happen in one day? Is it possible for the Steam review system to be manipulated? I noticed one suspicious review was from an Argentinian (from his profile) with the handle Saibot Studios, who was shown to play MOO: CTS for less than an hour. Yet his short review had 59 of 66 people finding Salbot's review helpful.

Here is the full text of Saibot Studio's thorough review.
"Really nice! it's not my kind of game (I didn't actually play the previous releases) but I really got into it :)
Nice graphics, audio and animations. Cool races and characters and pretty solid controls.
Just give it a try!"

Does that look like a "Helpful Review"? If you are the developer I guess the answer is "Yes".

Hey, Orion88: you left a comment in that one review above in question. Do you see anything else odd about this fresh series of positive reviews that were voted up?

One has to admit it's a stroke a good luck that the most recent helpful reviews all go positive right before the game's official release date. What a lucky world we all live in!"

Pretty interesting to say the least, as the last time I visited the most recent reviews (a couple of days ago) most of them had only a couple of votes per review.

Moreover, I advise that the tactical combat must be made more player controllable and informative for this to become a proper MOO game.

Nothing would surprise me, but underhanded manipulation and PR tricks can only go so far in selling this oh-so mediocre, buggy, simplistic game. People will have no trouble seeing it for what it is. My prediction is that it will be released and then very quickly fade into obscurity as just another yawnfest failed Moo clone, identical to so many other previously failed attempts.

Roll on Moo 5, lets hope whoever ends up developing it is a lot more talented, capable and passionate about the material and a lot less interested in soullessly milking the I.P. dry for as much cash as humanly possible.

Everyone wants to become new 'Stephen Barcia'. It's once in a life time oportunity... noone wants anymore to be in the shadow of his fame by simply making a remake of his game.

They did a tomb stone but not a rebirth.

A sudden boost in positive reviews smells pretty fishy to me. The actual reviews from credible sources will tell the tale after release though.

Well at least we have yet again found another project leader who definitely is no Steve Barcia. Suprise, suprise there. :( Just wondering how many of these "Who wants to be the next Steve Barcia" talent shows we will have to go through until somebody with both intelligence and also humility steps up to the challenge.

If all this is actually true, I find it very troubling, because it makes the studio look like it's shift focus from changing and/or replacing features we (the players) don't like, to making us think that what we have right now is the desired outcome.

I strongly object to this kind of practice and really hope it is not true.

I'm pretty sure that we're jumping to conclusions here, I'm currently going through the most recent reviews to see what the OP on steam is on about.

I checked the reviews and it does seem a bit weird that all of a sudden most positive ones got 50+ helpful votes.

I hope it is a coincidence.

Anyone who disagrees with Steam reviews and has account there can downvote offending reviews. I'd say there are more then 50 such people around.

Normally, you could write it off as that. The OP talks about a special occurance though. There was a spike in votes; ~50 thumbs up for a large set of positive reviews, and an equal ~50 thumbs down for negative reviews that were on top at the time. 50 might not seem as much, but it is enough to hide all negative reviews so they don't get more view time (and thus no more votes).

The natural rate of up-/downvotes for Moo outside of this short timespan is very low comparatively, so the assumption that this was a directed campaign is not very hard to arrive at. Initiated by who is of course up for anyone to speculate...

Yes yes but what I'm implying is call to a countercampaign. As you said 50 votes is not much.

Its rare times like this that I actually wish I had a steam account.

Mikko_M was banned?  Was it for this thread?  Is it fine to discuss the topic?  =O.O=

kind of curious what this is all about.  There's 1200+ positive reviews on steam to just under 500 negative... not 50 like what was referred to here.

That's not what was said. At that time all the recently positive reviews had been found helpful by 50+ people in a short amount of time, while negative ones had been downvoted by almost the same margin.

Not even close to it being for this thread. I can't go into details on that because it's against our policy, but this thread wasn't the cause.

Hmm, just prior to MOO4 public release a long time forum member with 536 posts uncovers scam where positive Steam reviews get +50 mysterious votes and negative reviews get -50 thus making helpful reviews on the front page suddenly ALL positive.

Forum member is banned shortly after.

Coincidence of course. I feel ill.
