I liked ICE much ! It a new life for MOO2. A true Swiss Watch. Much better if you test it against Vanilla. The real shock at the first glance was a NO AUTOFIRE for MASS DRIVER.

That was a big decision and for reason that you get AF Mass Driver on route to Cl III Shield.

That combo was too strong for a.i. to handle and pretty much guaranteed a win.

In lastest ICE iteration, the Auto Fire mod space useage was increased from +50 to +100%.

Cl III shield is a singleton and moved a tech field higher.

Singleton to make sure a.i. will get it and to help Uncreative races..

Uncreatives could get a tech tree in vanilla moo2 with Multiphased Shields, Shield Capacitator or Hard Shield but without any base shield.

Never heard of ICE mod.

Read up on it, just looks like some fan based balancing?

MOO2 plays so smooth with ICE, just like you can see all layers of the game and all ways it all connected. CRYSTAL BOX it is !

I've just got a Spatial Compressor Tech from a Hero Pilot ! Wow ! AI is strong as hell.

I didn't get it, but 4 Tractor Beams isn't enough to turn Battleship to Immobile state. Perhaps, I'm using an old mod version.

Ahh the Tractor Beam, one of the most undervalued techs.

If someone uses it against you there is basically no defense possible other than to destroy the attacking vessel.

In vanilla moo2 for a BB you need 4 beams. Numbers of beams = size class ship, so 1,2,3,4,5,6 beams.

In ICE the numbers are 1,2,4,8,16,32. So you need 8 beams to completely immobilize a Battleship.

My favorite in Vanilla was a Phasing Cloak+Tractor Beam+Raid Ship. One Battleship was enough to destroy a Psilon DoomStar.

I always built specialty capture ships and stationed them near planets in hoping of capturing an antaran ship during a raid.   You could usually walk away with a couple of late game techs very early on after dismantling the captured ship.

I've never been able to successfully capture an Antaran ship.  I've been able to board them and tried to capture, but the result was always a self-destruct.  Am I missing something?

You need 50% luck and Troops with a good Ground Combat bonus.

Tried it with a bunch of Assault Shuttles already?

Ok, so it looks like I just need to boost my raiding capabilities a little further than I have thus far.  Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try on the next game.

For myself, MOO2 is all about boarding ships, stealing techs (and feeding them to the AI's, forcing them to research other things, so I can steal them, as well), and keeping all the computers alive until the end.  Some of the battles last quite a long time, such as when I have no missile ships left, and beams less than  or equal too Neutron Blasters.  I also like getting all the adv research to at least level 7, and improving all systems with 2 or more planets too have Large abundant / Huge abundant planets only.

In the past, I would isolate one species on a single tiny toxic, and keep them alive till the end, then give them 4-5 big systems with 3 or more fully developed planets, and then we would have a mutual slugfest!  Makes for some great fleet battles.

Further more, I believe that we must start building a better MoO5 now, for only by doing so can we get tomorrow's game, today!
