Hey everyone! Stay tuned for the Ships reveals! In the meantime here is a little teaser for the very "sterile" Meklar.

Meklar

Meklar are machines seeking many ambitious goals such as the creation of a truly sentient life and the discovery of an endless energy source. The population of the Meklar are expansions of the ONE Meklar. Meklar are expansions of the same consciousness. Deep within the beings of the Meklar is an organic life, which may operate many Meklar hubs. These organic lives may have one served a greater purpose, but now they are mindless slaves to the hardware they once created to protect themselves. These organic husks are limited in number and not every Meklar houses one of these individuals.

STAY TUNED AS WE HAVE MORE TO COME!

YES!!! At last!

BTW what's the deal with the different Meklar in this picture? Is it from another class, an upgraded model etc?

Without going into too much detail (don't want to ruin the complete bio) the Meklar are split into 2 types of "caste" those who are independent of machines (mobile) and those who are dependent of machines (are not mobile). So I'm going to theorize that the one in the wallpaper is one of the Meklar who are independent of machines while the one in your avatar is a dependent Meklar.

Hmm that's a good question, I thought it was more like a spider with the legs at the bottom keeping it up.

Wow!

If there is indeed such a distinction in game, I'll be thrilled! :D

But what do you mean by independent of machines? Maybe you mean those independent of organics since they are machines anyway?

By seeing the shadow, the "legs" do appear to be touching the ground.

Sort of, think of them like mechanized Klackons for example in the Klackon culture every Klackon serves a purpose in the hive mind.....you have your soldiers, your workers, your breeders, your specialized one et et.

The Meklar are similar in that each Meklar has a specific purpose that serves their leader except the Meklar have a much simpler system of mobile Meklars and non-mobile Meklars. The mobile Meklars are used as soldiers and travellers while the non-mobile Meklars are more used for processing data and research and so on. I hope this kind of sheds some more light.

What do you mean by sterile?

Do they manufacture their progeny?

Thanks for the info. :)

So, is it safe to say that the diplomat and the scientist will be immobile type while the soldier and spy the mobile one?

You guys really have some sort of fetish for tiny legs? If those even are legs in the picture? Anyway a very average looking robot in my opinion that has some similarities with the Darloks (long skinny hands and the head with the light), which isn`t a good thing if you want to create truly unique looking alien species.

Moreover, I advise that the tactical combat must be made more player controllable and informative for this to become a proper MOO game.

The long lost formula for space 4X game success = Good tactical combat + good empire management > than just good tactical combat or good empire management alone.

You seen the other kind of Meklars, one seen in the menu when you are choosing a race? That is more typical version, which is now specualted to be a soldier and spy type, while the one you see here is leader and scientist. or leader will be "standard humanoid robot" kind too, we cannot be sure. Its still pretty confusing.

Yes and currently I like that one more of the two seen so far, although it too doesn`t appear to be too exotic and kind of resembles the Silicoid representative in that screen.

It's just the posture that is similar. I too prefer that Meklar simply because it is an upgrade to that from the first MoO game.

Anyway.... How about some more info about them Meklars? Any news?

I check the facebook page every day but it seems to be dead for more than a week now... :(

The frequency of given information substantially decreased after the PAX Week, if I am not mistaken with the name of the event. Psilon starship lineup, biographies and starship lineups for Meklar and Silicoids are missing, and the release is getting closer to us. This is something that I dont particularly like or appreciate with the games (its not just MoO). We are given this kind of in-depth lore, but there will always be missing some by the release, and than we can just wave it goodbye. Similar thing happened with C&C Red Alert 3.

Earlier there was some discussion about the Darloks needing some spying competition. And if there is another races that might logically fit that role it might be the Meklars, as they are obviously very familiar with robotic technology that I would imagine all of the space faring races using in some form or another. However the danger of course in introducing competition to the Darloks is that they don`t feel that unique anymore and I don`t think any of us wants that. So if a spying bonus would be introduced also to another race it should then be clearly below the bonus that the Darloks are getting.

Moreover, I advise that the tactical combat must be made more player controllable and informative for this to become a proper MOO game.

Yep, same like Psilons are master scientists. No one can be above them in research :D

Yes. In my mod I have given the Meklar a +10 spy bonus, as they should be good at cybercrime :)

Also the Elerians would be a great race for a bit of Darlok competition, but the are not in the initial moo4 release unfort. :(
