Imo, ES comes close enough, but without proper space battles it is a crap. I don't like StarDrive series and Predestination is very poor atm. I don't like the way strategic maps are done in GalCiv series and i hate its ship view desinging mechanics. MOO12 is the best. Eye candy isn't a Brain candy.

1) Master of Magic. Really old, MoO2 copied it's mechanics.
2) Stardrive 2 is comes really close with TB ground combat and RT space battles.
3) Lord of Rigel is a clone WIP kickstarter project that looks really promissing.

Depends on how you look at it.
If it's a MoO2 v2.0 that you like, then Lord of Rigel is exactly that.
MoO4 seems to follow Sid Meier's recipe of the 1/3. Scrap 1/3, keep 1/3 and add 1/3 new content.

Seriously, it is just a Moo2 with better graphics and differently named aliens.
It is still waaaay early WIP.

There are two games that are fairly similar to MOO2:
- Armada 2526 Supernova
- Horizon
Both games are very solid and had good support. I like both. I have a small preference for Armada 2526.

A pessimist might say 1/3 MoO 1 & 2, 1/3 MoO 3, 1/3 Sid Meyer Ripoff - Especially with what we've seen from the Tech Web and Research 'Victory' option. I'm trying to keep an open mind, but bracing for impact, nonetheless.

Just bought Horizon and Star Drive 1, already own the Armada series. Of the 3, Horizon, for me, is the closest to MoO2.

My oldest boy commented last night that I must like it. "Dad, All I see when I come by is you playing horizon and in the ship design screen".
